Pickup Truck Concert Series
Nothing says Alberta spirit like a tailgate country concert bringing the community together. We had such an amazing time this summer during our socially distant Pickup Truck Concert Series, spreading the energy of music throughout the province with the help of local musician Tim Hus and his band.
Our concert series launched on May 25, 2020 when our bright orange truck pulled up outside long-term care facilities with Tim Hus to entertain the residents and staff during a challenging time. The people living and working in these care facilities have spent long months in isolation—since they couldn’t leave, we brought the music straight to them.
We visited long-term care facilities in High River, Ponoka and Brooks, Alberta, where residents and staff were invited to come outside or listen from their windows to the live country music. Everyone kept a socially safe distance from the truck, the band and each other while still having a great time. For people who couldn’t make it or just wanted to tune in to the live music, our team live-streamed the concerts on our Instagram page.
It was heartwarming to watch both the residents and staff clap, dance and sing along to the upbeat country music. Tim Hus and his band delivered everything that the community needed during that time; good music, entertainment, positive energy and an uplifting afternoon spent outside. We’re told by residents that, having spent so much time on Facetime or phone calls, it was so refreshing to see live music and people in real life—even from a socially safe distance.
Community, kindness and Alberta pride are integral to us at Direct Energy and anytime we can bring people together and get out into the community, we’ll always be there. The Pickup Truck Concert Series was a huge success thanks to the long-term care facilities, the staff, Tim Hus and his team and the residents—we couldn’t have done it without you.
This year has been challenging for everyone, but we don’t have to do it alone. The community is stronger together and we felt it firsthand, meeting all the wonderful residents and staff. Our bright orange truck will be back on the road soon, stay tuned to see when we will be in your community.
